The Evolution of E-lit: Quantitative Approaches
James O’Sullivan
A work of electronic literature is typically defined as “a first-generation digital object created on a computer and (usually) meant to be read on a computer” (Hayles). This talk will build on previous work presented at WSU Vancouver’s Electronic Literature Lab and at the ELO 2016 conference, demonstrating how computer-assisted critical methods can be used to help determine the extent to which electronic literature has evolved. In particular, prominent DH techniques will be applied to a set of relevant e-lit resources in an effort to examine how quantitative evidence can assist in our understanding of the electronic literary movement.
