The aim of the paper is to show the potential of the corpus and quantitative approaches in the research of proper names, mostly place names. At the start of presentation there are summarized key arguments for quantitative onomastics. These arguments are further illustrated through a case study on the research of region names (choronyms). On the background of the existence of traditional and newly established ad hoc regions, e.g., Euroregions and microregions, the following analysis is concentrated on the frequency and collocation analysis of the traditional region proper names. The examined region names are taken from Ethnographical atlas of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia IV (2004). The goal of the research is to show current perception of the regions. The analysis is based on data from the Czech National Corpus SYN, version 11.
